What is CVE-2019-8396?
A buffer overflow vulnerability has been identified in the HDF5 library's H5O__layout_encode function located in H5Olayout.c. This issue permits an attacker to exploit the processing of specially crafted HDF5 files, potentially leading to a denial of service. The vulnerability arises during the repacking of HDF5 files and is characterized by an invalid write operation of size 2. By leveraging this vulnerability, hostile actors can disrupt the normal operation of applications relying on the HDF5 library.
