What is CVE-2020-10808?

The Vesta Control Panel (VestaCP) version 0.9.8-26 is susceptible to a command injection vulnerability via its schedule/backup backup listing endpoint. An attacker can exploit this weakness by crafting a specific filename on the server. This can be demonstrated through an FTP session that renames a system file, such as .bash_logout, to include shell metacharacters, enabling arbitrary command execution. Proper access controls and input validation are essential to mitigate the risks associated with this vulnerability.

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
