Buffer Overflow Vulnerability in NETGEAR R6700 Router
CVE-2020-15417
What is CVE-2020-15417?
A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the NETGEAR R6700 router, specifically in the way the system handles uploaded string table files. This flaw allows attackers located on the same network segment to exploit it without needing authentication. By crafting a malicious gui_region in the string table, an attacker can overflow a fixed-length, stack-based buffer, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution in the context of the web server. This poses a significant security risk, as it can compromise the integrity of the router and the network it serves.
