Out-of-Bounds Write Vulnerability in HHVM by Facebook
CVE-2020-1917
What is CVE-2020-1917?
The vulnerability arises from an improper handling of string manipulation within the xbuf_format_converter employed in exif_read_data. It appends a terminating null character without using the designated append character function, leading to potential out-of-bounds writes when the buffer reaches its limits. This flaw exposes systems running affected HHVM versions to the risk of unintended memory manipulation, which may allow attackers to exploit the vulnerability further. Ensure to update to the latest version to mitigate risks.
