What is CVE-2020-24972?

The Kleopatra component in GnuPG prior to version 3.1.12 and 20.07.80 is susceptible to a vulnerability that allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code. This is due to the improper handling of openpgp4fpr: URLs, which lack adequate safeguarding for command-line options. An attacker could exploit this by manipulating the Qt platformpluginpath option to load malicious DLL files, leading to uncontrolled execution of code within the affected application.

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
