What is CVE-2020-35488?

The NXLog Community Edition has a vulnerability in its fileop module that can be exploited to cause a denial of service (daemon crash) by sending a specially crafted Syslog payload to its Syslog service. This attack necessitates a specific configuration, where the name of the created directory must correlate with a Syslog field. Importantly, directory naming limitations on different operating systems (e.g., restricted directory names like '..' on Linux and 'CON' on Windows) may influence the attack's success.

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
