What is CVE-2021-31607?

A command injection vulnerability exists in the Snapper module of SaltStack Salt versions 2016.9 through 3002.6. This flaw enables local privilege escalation by allowing an attacker to create a specially crafted file pathname that the Snapper module backs up. When the master node invokes the snapper.diff function, it executes a command without proper validation, which could be exploited by an unauthorized user to escalate privileges on the minion system.
