What is CVE-2021-42972?

The NoMachine Server is susceptible to a buffer overflow vulnerability due to an insecure IOCTL handler (0x22001B). Versions before 7.7.4 and 4.0.346 are particularly affected, allowing local attackers to exploit this flaw. By sending specially crafted I/O Request Packets, an attacker could execute arbitrary code at the kernel level or cause a denial of service, resulting in memory corruption and potential system crashes.
