What is CVE-2021-44686?

Calibre prior to version 5.32.0 is susceptible to a Regular Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS) due to an inefficient regex pattern found in the html_preprocess_rules function. This could lead to performance degradation or denial of service during the processing of certain ebooks, as the flawed regex may cause excessive backtracking. Users are advised to upgrade to the latest version to mitigate this vulnerability.
