What is CVE-2021-45339?

A privilege escalation vulnerability exists in Avast Antivirus prior to version 20.4 that enables a local attacker to exploit the software through a technique known as 'hollowing'. This allows the attacker to elevate their privileges by manipulating trusted processes, potentially bypassing Avast's built-in self-defense mechanisms and compromising the integrity of the security software.
