Vulnerability in Motorola ACE1000 RTU Utilizing Unsafe ECB Encryption
CVE-2022-30274
What is CVE-2022-30274?
The Motorola ACE1000 RTU, prior to May 2, 2022, employs a weak encryption method via ECB mode, which is susceptible to various attacks. The device communicates with the XRT LAN-to-radio gateway through an embedded client, storing credentials encrypted using the Tiny Encryption Algorithm with a hardcoded key. This method of encryption poses serious security risks, enabling unauthorized access to sensitive data. Additionally, the ACE1000 can manage MDLC traffic across Extended Command and Management Protocol and Network Layer networks, with authentication at the XNL port also relying on this insecure encryption method.
