Remote Code Execution in D-Link DIR-825 Router due to Insecure Service Handling
CVE-2022-43643
8.8HIGH
Summary
A significant security vulnerability exists in D-Link DIR-825 routers running firmware version 1.0.9/EE, which allows network-adjacent attackers to execute arbitrary code without authentication. This flaw is rooted in the Generic plugin for the xupnpd service, listening on TCP port 4044, which fails to validate user-supplied strings before executing system calls. Consequently, this can enable malicious actors to run code with the privileges of the administrative user, posing a serious risk to the security and integrity of affected systems.
