What is CVE-2022-50412?

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel related to the Adv7511 CEC adapter can lead to system instability. During the unregistration process of the CEC adapter, an assumption is made about the callability of the underlying adapter operations. If the CEC adapter possesses a valid physical address, the procedure inadvertently invalidates this address. This can cause a kernel oops, leading to potential execution errors in user memory. To mitigate the risk, it is essential to unregister the i2c_cec after the CEC adapter is unregistered and to subsequently disable the CEC clock. Proper handling of these operations is crucial to prevent runtime errors and maintain system integrity.
