Input Validation Flaw in Cisco NX-OS Enhances Risk of Denial of Service

What is CVE-2023-20168?
A vulnerability exists within the TACACS+ and RADIUS remote authentication processes in Cisco NX-OS Software. It stems from improper input validation during authentication attempts when the directed request option is enabled. An unauthenticated, local attacker could exploit this flaw by submitting a specially crafted string at the login prompt, prompting the affected device to unexpectedly reload. This scenario could ultimately lead to a denial of service (DoS) state, impacting device availability.
