What is CVE-2023-26463?

strongSwan versions 5.9.8 and 5.9.9 are subject to a vulnerability that poses a risk of remote code execution. This issue arises due to the reuse of a variable named 'public' for different purposes within a single function, leading to incorrect access control followed by an expired pointer dereference. The vulnerability can be exploited when an untrusted client certificate is sent during EAP-TLS authentication. Affected servers are those that load plugins implementing various TLS-based EAP methods. The issue has been addressed in strongSwan version 5.9.10.
