What is CVE-2023-29080?

A potential privilege escalation vulnerability exists in Revenera InstallShield due to the addition of InstallScript custom actions to Basic MSI or InstallScript MSI projects. This flaw allows extraction of binaries into predefined writable folders during installation, where standard user accounts may have write access. This creates a risk for DLL hijacking as malicious users could replace existing binaries, potentially leading to unauthorized access and control.
