What is CVE-2023-32314?

A sandbox escape vulnerability has been identified in vm2, which is designed to execute untrusted code using Node.js built-in modules. This vulnerability affects all versions up to and including 3.9.17. The issue arises from an improper implementation concerning the Proxy specification that allows a threat actor to bypass sandbox protections, leading to unauthorized remote code execution on the hosting environment. To mitigate this risk, users are strongly advised to update to vm2 version 3.9.18 or later, as there are currently no available workarounds.
