Samba: infinite loop in mdssvc rpc service for spotlight
CVE-2023-34966

7.5HIGH

Summary

An infinite loop vulnerability exists in Samba's mdssvc RPC service when processing Spotlight RPC packets. The unmarshalling function sl_unpack_loop() fails to validate the count of elements in the incoming packet. An attacker can exploit this by sending a crafted request with a count value of zero, causing the system to enter an infinite loop. This results in 100% CPU utilization, effectively leading to a denial of service. System administrators are advised to implement the latest updates to mitigate this issue.
