What is CVE-2023-34969?

The D-Bus implementation, prior to version 1.15.6, contains a flaw that allows unprivileged users to potentially crash the dbus-daemon, resulting in a denial-of-service condition. When a privileged user monitors message bus traffic through the org.freedesktop.DBus.Monitoring interface, an unprivileged user can exploit this by sending an unreplyable message, leading to instability in the dbus-daemon under certain conditions. This can particularly affect the well-known system bus, making it critical to upgrade to the patched versions: 1.12.28, 1.14.8, or 1.15.6.
