libp2p nodes vulnerable to OOM attack
CVE-2023-40583
7.5HIGH
What is CVE-2023-40583?
The go-libp2p networking stack, part of The IPFS Project, is susceptible to a memory flaw where malicious actors can deposit uncontrollable data into a remote node's memory. This exploitation occurs via signed peer records, leading to insufficient garbage collection and ultimately, crashes due to resource depletion. Without vigilant memory use monitoring, nodes can be lulled into a prolonged state of vulnerability, allowing attackers to disrupt service over time. The issue has been resolved in version 0.27.4.
