D-Link DIR-3040 prog.cgi SetQuickVPNSettings PSK Stack-Based Buffer Overflow Remote Code Execution Vulnerability
CVE-2023-41223
What is CVE-2023-41223?
The D-Link DIR-3040 routers are susceptible to a stack-based buffer overflow due to improper input validation in the prog.cgi binary. This vulnerability arises when handling HNAP requests via the lighttpd web server, specifically on TCP ports 80 and 443. By sending a specially crafted user-supplied string, an authenticated attacker can execute arbitrary code within the context of the root user. This poses a significant risk to network integrity, potentially allowing unauthorized access and control over the device. Network administrators are encouraged to review their configurations and apply any security patches provided by D-Link to mitigate this vulnerability.
