Rootfs Not Protected
CVE-2023-43636
What is CVE-2023-43636?
The vulnerability in EVE OS's measured boot mechanism allows attackers to manipulate the filesystem without altering the PCR values. This oversight lets attackers gain total control over the device, circumventing the security controls typically enforced by the measured boot process. As the default filesystem of EVE OS is squashfs, which is more complex to modify than ext4, the risk remains significant as malicious actors can repackage the squashfs environment. This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive encrypted data stored within the vault.
