Stack-based Buffer Overflow Remote Code Execution Vulnerability in D-Link DAP-1325 Routers
CVE-2023-44406
What is CVE-2023-44406?
A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the XML data handling of the HNAP1 SOAP endpoint in D-Link DAP-1325 routers. This flaw allows network-adjacent attackers to exploit the vulnerability by sending malformed XML data, which could lead to arbitrary code execution. Due to insufficient validation of the user-supplied data length, attackers can manipulate the stack-based buffer, executing code with root privileges on compromised devices. This security issue does not require authentication, thereby increasing the potential risk for exploitation in vulnerable installations.
