What is CVE-2023-45139?

The fontTools library, a popular Python toolkit for manipulating fonts, has a security vulnerability within its subsetting module. This vulnerability arises from an XML External Entity Injection (XXE) flaw, which could enable attackers to resolve arbitrary entities during the parsing of OT-SVG fonts containing an SVG table. Exploiting this flaw allows unauthorized access to the host filesystem, leading to inclusion of arbitrary files or making external web requests. This security issue has been addressed and patched in fontTools version 4.43.0, making it critical for users to upgrade to this version to mitigate risks associated with this vulnerability.
