What is CVE-2023-53441?

A memory leak issue has been identified in the Linux kernel's BPF component, particularly during the cpu_map_update_elem operation. This flaw occurs when kthread_stop is called prior to executing the thread function of rcpu->kthread. This results in allocated resources—such as rcpu and its associated queues—not being released as expected. The leak can persist as reference counts never reach zero, preventing proper memory cleanup and subsequent resource exhaustion. Immediate upgrading of affected kernel versions is advised to mitigate potential exploitation risks.
