What is CVE-2023-53978?

myBB Forums version 1.8.26 is susceptible to a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability within its forum announcement system. Authenticated administrators can exploit this flaw by embedding malicious scripts in the announcement title field while creating new announcements. As a result, when the announcement is viewed on the forum, these scripts will execute, potentially leading to unauthorized actions and compromising the security of users visiting the site. This vulnerability highlights the critical need for web application security measures to prevent such direct script injections.
