What is CVE-2023-5841?

A vulnerability exists in the Academy Software Foundation's OpenEXR image parsing library due to inadequate validation of the number of scanline samples in OpenEXR files containing deep scanline data. This flaw can lead to a heap-based buffer overflow, potentially allowing an attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service. The issue has been resolved in versions 3.2.2 and 3.1.12, which address the improper handling of deep scanline data. Users of the affected versions are advised to upgrade to the latest releases to mitigate this security risk.
