What is CVE-2024-20312?
A vulnerability exists in the Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System (IS-IS) protocol within Cisco IOS Software and Cisco IOS XE Software. This security issue arises from inadequate input validation when processing incoming IS-IS packets. An attacker, positioned Layer 2 adjacent to the targeted device and having established an adjacency, can exploit this flaw by sending a specially crafted IS-IS packet. Successful exploitation could result in the affected device reloading unexpectedly, leading to a denial of service condition. This vulnerability poses significant risks to network stability and security for organizations using vulnerable Cisco products.
