What is CVE-2024-23324?

The vulnerability in Envoy Proxy enables an external authentication bypass through the manipulation of downstream connections. This issue arises when clients force invalid gRPC requests to be processed by the ext_authz service, specifically when the failure_mode_allow option is enabled. Consequently, the ext_authz security checks are circumvented, posing a significant risk to systems utilizing affected versions of Envoy Proxy. Users are strongly urged to upgrade to the patched versions 1.29.1, 1.28.1, 1.27.3, or 1.26.7 to secure their environments, as no workarounds are available.
