PKCE downgrade attack in Authentik
CVE-2024-23647
What is CVE-2024-23647?
A vulnerability affecting the Authentik open-source Identity Provider allows attackers to bypass the protections afforded by the Proof Key for Code Exchange (PKCE). In specific versions prior to 2023.8.7 and 2023.10.7, an attacker could manipulate the authorization request by removing the code_challenge parameter, leading to a failed PKCE verification. This vulnerability poses a risk of Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) and potential code injection attacks, undermining the security provided by PKCE. Users are advised to upgrade to the specified versions to mitigate this risk.
