What is CVE-2024-28233?

An XSS vulnerability exists in JupyterHub, an open-source multi-user server designed for Jupyter notebooks. Attackers can exploit this vulnerability by deceiving users into visiting a malicious subdomain, leading to unauthorized access to their active sessions. This exposure allows full control over the JupyterHub API as well as the user's single-user server. The vulnerability is particularly significant in configurations that consist of single-origin JupyterHub deployments or partnerships with user-controlled applications residing in subdomains. The issue has been addressed and patched in version 4.1.0.
