What is CVE-2024-28253?

OpenMetadata, a platform designed for metadata management and governance, is impacted by a vulnerability due to a flaw in the authorization mechanism of its PolicyResource. The vulnerability arises when a PUT request is made to the '/api/v1/policies' endpoint, allowing an attacker to exploit an authorization check that happens post evaluation of a SpEL (Spring Expression Language) expression. This flaw can potentially allow a remote code execution, compromising the integrity of the system. As a response to this vulnerability, an update to version 1.3.1 is required for users. No known workarounds exist, making prompt upgrades critical.
