What is CVE-2024-42053?
The installation process of Splashtop Streamer for Windows versions earlier than 3.6.0.0 utilizes a temporary folder that is configured with insufficient permissions. This misconfiguration can be exploited by a local user to achieve privilege escalation to the SYSTEM level by inserting a malicious version.dll file into the insecure directory created during installation. Users and administrators should consider updating to the latest version to mitigate this security issue.
