What is CVE-2024-46766?

A vulnerability exists in the Intel Ice driver of the Linux kernel that concerns improper handling within the netif_queue_set_napi function. This issue arises when netif_queue_set_napi() is called from the ice_vsi_rebuild() function without proper rtnl-locking, which complicates synchronization with .ndo_bpf and may lead to buffer overflows, resulting in out-of-bounds writes. The vulnerability necessitates adjustments in how napi-to-queue information is handled during the VSI opening and closing process. By rewriting the napi-to-queue assignment to prevent the inclusion of XDP queues, the vulnerability is mitigated, enhancing the overall stability and security of the network interface.
