Resolved vulnerability in fscache module
CVE-2024-46786
What is CVE-2024-46786?
A vulnerability has been identified in the Linux kernel related to the fscache module, which improperly manages the fscache_cookie_lru_timer. When the fscache module is inserted, this timer is initialized but not deleted upon its removal. A subsequent call to timer_reduce() could potentially lead to a use-after-free condition. This occurs when the fscache module is removed while the timer is still registered, leading to a system fault during softIRQ processing. This vulnerability highlights the necessity for developers to ensure proper cleanup and resource management when modules are unloaded, thereby preventing exploitation scenarios that may compromise system integrity.
