What is CVE-2024-47188?

A vulnerability exists in Suricata, a widely utilized network Intrusion Detection System (IDS), and Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), due to the absence of random seed initialization for the 'thash' function. This flaw can enable an attacker to manipulate data density in hash buckets, resulting in predictable hash table behavior. Consequently, such manipulation can lead to significant performance degradation in systems running vulnerable versions of Suricata. The issue has been rectified in version 7.0.7 with critical updates to enhance security and reliability.
