What is CVE-2024-5764?

A hard-coded credentials vulnerability has been identified in Sonatype Nexus Repository, primarily associated with the code responsible for encrypting sensitive information within the configuration database. This issue stems from the reliance on a static encryption passphrase, which poses significant security risks if compromised. Although administrators have the capability to define a custom encryption passphrase during the initial setup, this passphrase remains immutable post-installation. The impact is prevalent across versions 3.0.0 to 3.72.0, highlighting an urgent need for updates and remediation strategies.

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
