What is CVE-2024-58388?

Sharp and Toshiba Tec multifunction printers are susceptible to an unauthenticated local file inclusion vulnerability. This issue arises from improper validation of user input in the installed_emanual_down.html endpoint. By manipulating the path parameter, attackers can execute directory traversal attacks, allowing them to read sensitive files outside the designated manual directory. This includes critical system files like /etc/passwd and potentially sensitive coredump files that may contain crucial credentials. The first exploitation evidence was observed by the Shadowserver Foundation on July 30, 2024, highlighting the need for immediate patching to prevent unauthorized access.
