What is CVE-2024-7229?

The vulnerability associated with Avast Cleanup Premium allows local attackers to exploit a flaw within the Avast Cleanup Service. By creating a symbolic link, an attacker can manipulate the service to delete critical files, enabling them to escalate privileges within the affected system. To successfully exploit this vulnerability, the attacker must have already executed low-privileged code on the target device. Once exploited, the attacker could gain the ability to execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM level privileges, which poses serious risks to the integrity and security of the host system.
