What is CVE-2024-7231?

The vulnerability within Avast Cleanup Premium stems from improper handling of symbolic links, which permits local attackers to escalate their privileges. This flaw exists in the Avast Cleanup Service, enabling adversaries to craft a symbolic link that might lead to unauthorized deletion of critical files. After gaining initial low-privileged access, an attacker can exploit this weakness to execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges, potentially compromising the entire system and exposing sensitive information.
