What is CVE-2025-15545?
The backup restore function in TP-Link RE605X routers fails to properly validate tags in backup files. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by supplying a specially crafted backup file that contains unexpected or unrecognized tags. When this malicious file is restored, the router's shell interprets the injected tag, which can lead to the execution of arbitrary commands with root privileges. This exploitation can substantially compromise the device's confidentiality, integrity, and availability, posing significant risks to network security.
