What is CVE-2025-20217?

A flaw in the packet inspection feature of Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense Software allows remote, unauthenticated attackers to trigger a denial of service (DoS). This vulnerability arises from improper traffic processing, where specially crafted packets can exploit the system, leading it into an infinite loop while inspecting traffic. Consequently, this may hinder the performance of the device and lead to service interruptions as the system's watchdog attempts to restart the Snort process automatically. Timely patching is crucial to safeguard network integrity.
