Denial of Service Vulnerability in Apollo Router Core by Apollo GraphQL
CVE-2025-32034
What is CVE-2025-32034?
The Apollo Router Core, a high-performance graph router designed to operate with Apollo Federation 2, contains a vulnerability that affects the efficiency of query planning. Specifically, prior to the patches present in versions 1.61.2 and 2.1.1, the router allowed for queries that featured deeply nested and reused named fragments to become excessively resource-intensive. This issue arises because named fragments are expanded multiple times during query planning, leading to exponential growth in resource utilization. Consequently, this vulnerability opens avenues for denial-of-service attacks, resulting in potential system outages and disruptions. Immediate upgrades to the latest versions are recommended to mitigate these risks.
