Vulnerability in Linux Kernel Affecting VIRQ Binding
CVE-2025-40160
What is CVE-2025-40160?
A recently identified issue in the Linux kernel revolves around the handling of Virtual Interrupt Requests (VIRQs). Previously, attempts to bind a VIRQ to a CPU where one was already bound would trigger an error that halted execution. With this new change, attempts to bind an already bound VIRQ will now return an error code of -EEXIST instead of causing a fatal execution halt. This enhancement allows for improved error handling and stability when managing both per-cpu and global interrupt requests, particularly during CPU migrations. The update aims to maintain system integrity and ensure smoother operations despite potential misconfigurations in VIRQ assignments.
