What is CVE-2025-48387?
The tar-fs package, which provides filesystem bindings for tar-stream, contains a vulnerability that permits file extraction outside of the designated directory when processing certain tarball inputs. This flaw affects versions prior to 3.0.9, 2.1.3, and 1.16.5. Users are advised to upgrade to patched versions to mitigate the risk, and as a temporary measure, the ignore option can be used to prevent non-file or directory extractions.
