Local privilege escalation in ClipShare Server by The Vindu
CVE-2025-49148
What is CVE-2025-49148?
The ClipShare Server for Windows allows a local, non-privileged user to exploit the default Windows DLL search order. Before version 3.8.5, the application would load system libraries like CRYPTBASE.dll and WindowsCodecs.dll from its own directory instead of the system path. By placing a malicious DLL in the folder containing clip_share.exe, a user could execute arbitrary code in the context of the server. If executed by an Administrator or an elevated user, this could lead to local privilege escalation, significantly increasing the risk of unauthorized access and control.
