File Read Vulnerability in Roo Code AI Agent from Roo Code Inc.
CVE-2025-53097
What is CVE-2025-53097?
The Roo Code AI-powered coding agent had a vulnerability in its search_files functionality, which allowed the agent to read files outside the permitted workspace in VS Code. This issue existed prior to version 3.20.3, and its exploitation required that an attacker inject a malicious prompt into the agent. If successful, this could lead to sensitive data being exposed and transmitted in JSON format without user consent. The default setting of allowing schema fetching in VS Code further exacerbated the risk. Fortunately, this vulnerability has been addressed in version 3.20.3, which ensures that the search_files tool now respects workspace boundaries, significantly mitigating future risks of unauthorized data access.
