Bypass of Quote Controls in Mastodon Social Networking Server
CVE-2025-62605
What is CVE-2025-62605?
Mastodon, the open-source social network server, introduced a feature in version 4.4 to support verifiable quote posts. However, prior versions allow attackers to circumvent these controls. By reblogging posts and quoting their own reblogs, an attacker can generate unauthorized previews of original posts. This exploitation of the quote control system exposes sensitive content that would typically be protected from unauthorized access. The issue has been mitigated in versions 4.4.8 and 4.5.0-beta.2, which implement more robust security measures.
