Buffer Overflow in CryptoLib Affects NASA's Core Flight System
CVE-2025-64096
What is CVE-2025-64096?
CryptoLib, utilized for securing communications between spacecraft and ground stations, contains a vulnerability due to a missing bounds check in the Crypto_Key_update() function prior to version 1.4.2. By exploiting this flaw, an attacker can send a crafted TLV packet with a manipulated length field, which may trigger a stack-based buffer overflow. This overflow can lead to out-of-bounds writes and potential memory corruption, compromising the integrity of the communications in space operations. The issue has been addressed in version 1.4.2.
