What is CVE-2025-64433?

A vulnerability in KubeVirt allows malicious users to exploit improper symbolic link handling when PVC disks are mounted into virtual machines, leading to unauthorized access to files on the virt-launcher pod's file system. This issue enables an attacker with control over a PVC to create a symbolic link that points to any file within the pod, facilitating file reading from within a guest VM. Although VMs run as an unprivileged user to limit resource access, a secondary vulnerability allows the ownership of files to be changed to this unprivileged user, effectively bypassing security restrictions. This vulnerability has been addressed in versions 1.5.3 and 1.6.1.
